PZ Myers posted this back in December, and I thought it was worth repeating. I'm in a debate with an old friend and we keep getting stuck on pretty much all of those discussion stoppers. I keep trying because he's a friend and I don't like to shut people down.
I think the discussions you're referring to will continually "loop" due to point number #4. When someone embraces supernatural as reality, you can't get past their lack of need for evidence. I think in turn, your friend can't understand rejecting stories that are unsupported and just plain illogical. That's why I can't personally have these discussions. But, I'm glad people like you do.
